Day visits provide students with an overview of the Center's 40 years of archeological research and education. A professional archeologist presents a lecture that outlines our work in the Lower Illinois Valley and provides an introduction to archeology and its relationship to the natural and social sciences. Visitors tour our reconstructed village teaching facility where they will see a number of different houses from prehistory, learn about native building technology and explore why archeologists study houses. Flintknapping, the technology of making chipped-stone tools, is demonstrated and groups try their hand at making an arrow head. Displays at the Visitor's Center further illustrate important chronological and technological concepts of past cultures in the lower Illinois Valley.
Substitution of activities may be possible by prior arrangement.

Maximum number of participants: a maximum of 30 students is optimal, but larger groups can be accommodated with an increased tour time.

One chaperone per 15 students is required - one per 10 is suggested.
