Scouts have the opportunity to earn a "Digging Through the Past" patch or the BSA Archaeology Merit Badge by attending the Center for American Archeology Scouts of America Week program.
At our research and teaching facility in Kampsville, Illinois, Scouts will be introduced to archeological method and theory and take part in discussions on archeology and the related sciences. Participants will help investigate a prehistoric site through field/laboratory experience. Scouts take part in hands-on prehistoric and traditional technologies such as flintknapping (stone tool production) and fire-making. Groups also go on an ecology hike to explore resources used by Native Americans.
Dates: July 30-August 3
