WHAT DO ARCHEOLOGIST DO?

Today two archeologist came to our school to teach us about archeology. We leaned about how they dig up artifacts and then process them in the lab. For example, they find small animal bones and seeds that float on top of water by using the method of flotation. In the field they put dirt on top of screens, then they shake the dirt off, and sometimes they find artifacts. They experiment with things they thought the Indians did to see if they are right. For example they showed us some dark spots on the ground. They thought it was where a house or a fire had been. So they built a house and burned the house down and it made a dark spot on the ground.
Archeologist don't just dig up things, they take notes, take pictures, and measure, and draw things too. Archeologist have a cool job.

Game of Archeology

Two archeologists came to teach us about archeology. They put up charts so we could look at the different time periods. We played a game to help us learn about different time periods. It was called Culture History Mystery. We had rules in the game and could not switch the artifacts we were given. We had to work as a group to play the game. The two archeologists said to wait until they said go and then we opened up the box. One person out of a group takes something out of their box and asks people if they have anything that matches their artifact. Then you have to guess which time period your group was in.

We found a Bannerstone. It's the Archaic Era.

These are Arrowheads. So ours
must be the Late Woodland Time Period.
