The Center for American Archeology is proud to host the annual Arizona State University Field School in Kampsville, IL. The field school offers two concurrent six-week, nine-credit hour programs. Students may enroll for one of the following tracks:

  • Bioarcheology & Human Osteology
  • Field Archeology & Geophysical Testing

High School Field School is a great way to explore your interest in archeology! Our High School Field School is your opportunity to participate in archeological research and learn about prehistoric peoples while working alongside our staff of professional archeologists. You will learnfield excavation, laboratory processing, and how archeologists develop interpretations based on their research.

Adult Field School 2019

The Center for American Archeology offers four weeks of field excavation and laboratory analyses for undergraduates, graduate students, and adults of all ages interested in an intensive archeological experience.

Eco Adventure Day Camp 2018 – Session 2
Jul 16 – Jul 18 all-day

Eco Adventure Day Camp is a one-to-three day educational adventure open to students entering 5th-8th grades. Explore the outdoors in scenic Calhoun County with staff from the Center for American Archeology and McCully Heritage Project, and learn how people have interacted with the natural world and its resources since prehistoric times.

Participants may attend just one day or all three. Every camp day builds on the last, but are designed so those who can’t attend every day can join the fun right away. Each day will include a hike and activities to create ancient tools and technology using local natural resources. Hikes include information about methods of navigation, plants, wildlife, geology, archaeology and more.


Day 1: Orienteering Hike, ceramics, and cordage
Day 2: GPS Hike, stone tools, and fire-making
Day 3: Big Hike, picnic lunch, spear-throwing
